Why Reformer Pilates?
Reformer Pilates offers a wide range of benefits for both the body and mind. It improves core strength, flexibility, and posture by utilising the reformer's resistance-based exercises, which engage muscles more effectively than traditional mat Pilates. This low-impact workout is gentle on the joints, making it suitable for all fitness levels, while still building strength and endurance.
Reformer Pilates also enhances balance and coordination, promotes better body alignment, and can help alleviate back pain or muscular imbalances. Additionally, it supports mental well-being by promoting mindfulness and reducing stress through focused, controlled movements.
Joseph Pilates
Reformer Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. Joseph Pilates, a German physical trainer, created this system of exercises as part of his broader "Contrology" method, which aimed to improve physical and mental health through controlled, precise movements. He designed the reformer, a specialised piece of equipment with a sliding carriage, springs, and straps, while working with injured soldiers during World War I. The reformer allowed patients to rehabilitate and regain strength while lying down, using resistance to improve muscle function. Over time, the method evolved and gained popularity, becoming a staple in both rehabilitation and fitness programs worldwide.
